HAPPY LANDING

Get the album HAPPY LANDING here

HAPPY LANDING is the Uke Collective’s 2nd album.

It features 14 tracks. 12 original titles and 2 covers. One of the cover tracks is SYRINX. Listen here to the band’s alternative take on this classic flute piece. SYRINX was written as a solo piece of music by Debussy in 1913(we play all the modern stuff).

Our interpretation features the flute - but this time accompanied by a textural soundscape and piano crafted into being by Mike Brooks the collective’s director.

Watch some uke instruction from the collective director Mike Brooks here: small instrument with the big sound as he plays and talks about the uke for the UNIVERSITY MUSICAL SOCIERTY (UMS).

STRUM INTO

Get the STRUM INTO COGNITION here

STRUM INTO COGNITION was the Collective’s 1st album.

The goal of the album (from director Mike’s point of view) was to get the ukulele players - who had taken up the uke for any number of reasons, including:

The love of the instrument, to improve cognition (hence the title of the album) and to benefit from the love and laughter that the collective engenders, used to working in a recording studio.

For some of the musicians in the collective the studio has been a lifelong working environment - for others, not so much. The goal is to keep us all learning via the generation of new neural pathways. Musicians never arrive. The goal is always just out of reach - that’s what makes the growth happen.

The collective’s rehearsals/lessons are always about musical growth and understanding - and fun.

Brain plasticity

We all listen to music.

But the plasticity really kicks in when you listen to the music while making it yourself - or better yet - with other people!.

If you haven’t picked up an instrument yet - perhaps it’s time you did?

If you want a UKE lesson or GUITAR lesson - or perhaps a music theory refresher, or learn how to improvise on your instrument of choice - get in touch.

Your brain will thank you.
